Territorial development in the face of climate change

Résumé

Climate change and its effects on human and natural systems call for rethinking territorial organization in favor of greater resilience. This implies the territory being able to develop a capacity to adapt, recover, and regenerate in the face of major events and crises (Martin & Sunley, 2007). The territorial ecosystem must also integrate a diversity of actors interacting around socioeconomic, environmental, and institutional issues promoting resilient territorial development. Beyond the static maps of the resilience of the territories, it seems essential to better understand the organizational dynamics structuring the territory and which make it possible to increase the capacity for resilience. The study of territorial systems of innovation and their evolution regarding climate challenges makes it possible to underline the importance of innovations that are constrained by resources in the dynamics of local development.
