The horizontal distribution of water in the stratospheres of Jupiter and Saturn with Herschel/PACS
Résumé
In this paper, we will present disk-resolved observations in the strong water line at 66.4 μm in the stratospheres of Jupiter and Saturn, recorded with the PACS (Photodetector Array Camera and Spectrometer) instrument [12] of the Herschel Space Observatory [13] on December 15th, 2010, and January 11th, 2011, respectively. The resulting telescope beam was 900 wide allowing mapping the horizontal distribution of water in the planets' stratospheres with a good resolution for Jupiter and a more limited one for Saturn. Thesemaps enable us to draw new conclusions on the origin of water in the upper atmospheres of these planets.
